frequently asked questions

Is rheumatoid arthritis a contraindication to weight loss surgery when I am on advanced anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive medication for control of it?

Generally, rheumatoid arthritis is not a contraindication to the surgery, and weight loss may result in improvement of your symptoms. However, you should consult with your rheumatologist, or other treating physicians to determine whether you are at significant risk for the surgery because of the disease or medication you are taking. Be sure to provide a report from that physician to Dr. Thomas to evaluate whether you are a candidate for weight loss surgery.
