Why surgical weight loss?

If a patient needs to lose 100 pounds or more to maintain their health, it is very doubtful that he or she will be able to do that without some kind of serious help. At present, the best "serious" help has proven to be WLS. Only a severe restriction of calorie intake will create a substantial weight loss, and for most patients, only weight loss surgery will help the patient to lose this kind of weight. Most patients lose 100 pounds or more in the first six to nine months. With the emotional and life-style changes that accompany this weight loss, then hopefully, the weight will become easier and easier to keep off.
