frequently asked questions

HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE?

For an open procedure the VBG takes about 45 minutes and the RYGB about 90 minutes. However, the prep time and time getting the patient to the recovery room make the entire time from the waiting area to the recovery room approximately 2-3 hours. If the gallbladder is removed at the same time, an additional 15 minutes is added to the total time. Of course, all this varies considerably from patient to patient. With a laparoscopic operation, the time can vary from one and a half to four hours.
