frequently asked questions

EXACTLY WHAT IS THE VERTICAL BANDED GASTROPLASTY OR VBG?

The Vertical Banded Gastroplasty or VBG is one of the two procedures that Dr. Thomas performs. Four rows of stainless steel staples are applied to the stomach to divide it into a small pouch and a large pouch. The small pouch is used to limit the amount of solid food a patient can eat in one sitting. The large pouch will still be used for digestion and will remain healthy. A mesh band is placed around the bottom of the small pouch to prevent stretching of the outlet. This is the safest form of surgical weight loss.
