frequently asked questions

If I qualify as a potential candidate and want to have a minimally invasive-laproscopic Roux-en-Y, is any surgeon on the Highland Medical Center staff able to perform that procedure?

Before considering a laparoscopic RNY, the patient must meet certain criteria. Dr Thomas states the patient must be a female who has a BMI of 43 or less; is 43 years of age or less; is heavier in the hip and thigh areas than the abdomen; has delivered children; and who has not undergone upper abdominal surgery [other than a possible exception for laparoscopic procedures].

If you choose Dr. Thomas, you must substantiate that you meet the above criteria, and also provide all other necessary medical information, including information from your primary care physician, testing ordered by Dr. Thomas, and physical examination before he can determine whether you are a potential candidate.
