frequently asked questions

Can you give me a rough idea of the routine during my hospital stay?

Depending on the preoperative testing and surgeons physical examination, you may require additional medical consultation. At Highland, Dr.Thomas does not approve any patient for surgery until preoperative evaluation is completed.Generally, if you are determined a candidate for surgery, the usual course is between 3 - 5 days hospitalization depending ON the surgical procedure. The first day of hospitalization may require additional testing, or you may be prepared for and undergo the surgical procedure. You will be in the recovery room and/or ICU for immediately postoperatively. This means, there will be limits on the amount of time you can spend with your family or friends. If you have no significant immediate post - operative complications, over the rest of your stay you will be very busy learning adjusting to and advancing your diet, physical activity and necessary routines. Dr.Thomas and other consultants that he orders will be assessing and advising you to be sure that you are ready for discharge.
