frequently asked questions

Does this surgery affect my metabolism?

After weight loss surgery you will eat significantly less than you do today. This is a tool that gives patients (many for the first time) the ability to gain control over their food intake and physical as well as mental desire for food. As you lose weight and change your eating habits your metabolism and your body adapt to the changes, thus as time goes by you will be able to eat more although never as much as previously, and you will continue to lose weight over a 12-24 month period. You will reach a set point and then with normal exercise (i.e. walking) and moderate attention to what you eat, hopefully, you will find yourself able to stay at a stable, desirable weight. This cannot be achieved thru fad diets or pharmaceutical products all of which temporarily affect metabolism but usually result in temporary weight loss followed by gaining back the lost weight and more.
